SSD Simplified: Everything you need to know about SSD

SSD Simplified: Everything you need to know about SSD

SSD Simplified: Everything you need to know about SSD

Over many years, digitalization has invaded the real world we interact with every day. But where do we store all our content? Storage has always been a big problem for us. Although we have many devices who hold and store your data, we always look for a larger space, in real life, and in digital life too.

I remember we watched videos from VCRs in the 90s. From there we were evolved to VCDs, DVDs, Pendrives and many more. Our current favorite is HDD i.e; hard disk. What is a hard disk? It is a device that has more storage space to store all your data and yes, of course, we have limitations to the data starting from 500 GB to 1TB but here the drive spins produce heat due to that and also vibrates to an extent to give the information.

We have another interesting storage device in the market, SSD. What is SSD? What is the difference between SSD and HDD? how is it going to work? Let us know below.

This article explains nine interesting points about SSD. But first, What is SSD?

It is a Solid State Drive. It is also a component used to store data like HDD but this contains flash memories which are interconnected. Therefore, SSD has its own microprocessor which is responsible for data reading and writing.

How do they work?

Unlike HDDs, they don’t spin around to read or write the data. As mentioned above that they have their own microprocessors, they read the data on their own without spinning. The flash memory chips which are interconnected are made up of silicon.

1)  SSDs can offer lightening speed for your PC that helps boot up and run your applications faster than traditional hard disks. If you are annoyed with busy icons and heavy equipped applications, this is best for you!

2) SSD stores the data in blocks and hence it is known as Solid State drive. When the computer needs the data, SSD doesn’t spin like HDD instead, it just gives it. This is a simplified version of technology here. This helps your operations go way faster than you were doing.

3) SSD is all about storage speed than storage capacity. The maximum speed reads of an SSD are around 400 MB/ second. And maximum write speeds are around 300 MB/ second

4) SSD is impact resistant. Usually, in an HDD driven PC, any damage to the laptop can damage the data and sometimes it is lost completely. Well, it is a different SSD. It saves the data and keeps the OS firm.

5) SSD consumes very little power compared to a normal hard disk driven laptop. Because SSDs have no moving parts, you can always use less power than mechanical hardware drives. With this, it also proves that the life of an SSD is very long. Again, as there are no moving parts, it gives more performance than expected. Consumes 2-3 watts resulting in a 30+ minute battery boost.

6) High-performance servers, laptops, and desktops or any application which needs to deliver in real-time or near to real-time will be more benefitted by SSDs.

7) SSDs weigh less than Hard disks. And hence they are an easy fit for all the modern laptops which are light in weight but perform really faster.

8) It takes around 10-13 seconds as an average bootup time where an HDD takes more than 30 seconds on an average.

9) The file opening speed is 30% faster than a usual HDD which is to be noted for sure. It is safe from any effects of magnetism, unlike HDDs.

What the basic purchase considerations for SSD?

If your computer has M.2 slots on the motherboard and room is chassis, you can install an SSD in your computer. If not, then well, you need to have a 2.5-inch drive instead.

Don’t consider buying an SSD which is less than 256 GB of storage. A 500 GB storage offers a great balance between price and storage capacity.

Any SSD is better than hardware. Literally, the worst SSD is also at least three times faster than a HDD.

We can always have the best SSD laptops in India who makes the job easily done for us! Some of them are

Aspiring for a Digitized Education In India

Digital Dreams gets selected for One of the 10 Promising Smart Classroom Providers 2019 by CIO Review India

Education is one of the most necessary and focused development we have in our country today. Our Government has advised schools in our country to have a better education system by enhancing the rapidly growing digitalization.

Although Indian schools are aware of taking the other step in education, they are unsure about how to get a digital-centric education in main focus. The goal is to provide an interactive and fun education system where students dream about going to school. Inculcating whiteboards from the current market providers seems to be a little bulky and time-consuming according to the observations made. Most of the digital whiteboards have a piece of large equipment to carry and aren’t easy to move as they consist CPU, Cabinets, and UPS. The whole setup is complicated for the teachers as the standard class time is 40 minutes maximum.

This summarizes schools are looking for some realistic solutions to digitizing education in India. Considering this situation, we, Digital Dreams came with up futuristic solutions for the same collaborating with Cybernetyx, a popular German software company. The product is just an easy to use and highly equipped smart and interactive whiteboard. This device dismantles the necessity of a CPU, cabinet or USP. It includes everything that a PC, E-Content, and education management system has and wants to build in.

The interesting part is these devices are so convenient that they can make any white surface to an interactive board with more exciting features.

Our Founder and CEO, Mr. Rohit Arora says “ The current market potential is very high and unimaginable. But most of the companies are selling their physical interactive whiteboards which are highly complex with technological drawbacks.”

Digital Dreams associating with Cybernetyx is launching spark touch which comes with einsOS built exclusively for teaching, learning and making learning fun and interactive. Features as such wake up the curiosity in the seekers and enhances educational system. The concept of storytelling, which is the most effective way of learning will be in re-introduced through this device.

In this process of providing the best device to our education system, digital dreams are noticed and selected as one of the 10 most promising smart classroom solution providers 2019 by CIO India. And this marks another milestone to us!

Whats happening?

We are introducing the most unique and advanced technology to create a whole new dimension in the pursuit of digitizing education in India. We have EyeRIS IX, an advanced independent touch interactive projection system. Einsboard Neo is a device we are producing where it represents a smart interactive board of 86-inches. Sparkhub is another collaborative product which is a classic example of mobile teaching. The teachers can carry and teach anywhere and this makes a lot of difference in teaching.

Spark view is another device which is powered by a small computer and it is augmented reality smart document reader which can capture physical world objects and fetch them through the internet and display it digitally on the smart board. We have spark panel as another device which introduces an interactive touch panel of 65-inches. It has been developed as per the modern classroom and meeting room requirements.

Our CEO continued saying “If we talk about Rajasthan, Cybernetyx technology products have been deployed in more than 10,000 classrooms in past 3-4years. Recently, we have done a Government Project for Rajasthan Education Department where we deployed 5051 Classrooms in selected Govt. schools of Rajasthan and Swami Vivekananda Govt. Model School, where we transformed more than 250 traditional classrooms into digital ones.”

The Rise of laptops 1975-2020

The Rise of laptops 1975-2020

Laptops are portable computers. We are familiar with the facts that laptops can be carried away on the move and they are easy to handle and all sort of things as we experienced. The real question is do we really know where did we evolve from?

Thanks to the technology who is letting us share and live the information even after years. Let’s check them out!

1.IBM 5100

The first portable computer that was invented in 1975 was by IBM. It is called as IBM 5100, keeping a printer kind-a-look. It has an attached monitor and it weighed about 55 pounds i.e; 24.9 kgs. Although it wasn’t weighing light and portable, it is considered as lighter than computers. IBM has dug the digital land for a strong foundation.

2. Xerox Note Taker

It was invented in 1976 by the company Xerox. It was this name Xerox we all use it as a term for photocopy in today. Its keyboard is folded out to reveal its screen. It was the better version of the IBM 5100. The highly employed technology in those times includes 256 KB of RAM and 5MHz Intel CPU. How fascinating would it be for people at those times to experience a magic of technology?

3. Osborne 1

Launched in April 1981. This one is recognized as the first laptop computer. This device actually looked like an ancient version of what we use as laptops. In fact, it is recognized as the first laptop computer and it was the first commercially portable computer costing 1800$. It weighed 25 pounds which are more than half of our first portable computer, IBM 5100. It also has an introduction to complex software usage.

4. Epson HX-20

Also launched in 1981 by Epson Company. It looked like a calculator or a keyboard with a small screen. It is a little battery powered portable computer that reduced screen size for convineanceItv was hailed by BusinessWeek magazine as the fourth revolution in personal computing. In fact, in those days (1981), this company has video advertisements over televisions which went viral. It was known as another era of technology as it was wireless. It was built in screen and printer, it performed like nothing less than any other messy wired computers of the time.

5. Grid Compass 1101

This is the first portable computer that resembled our current laptops. It was highly priced and was sold limited. Also, the complexity of the software was too high to handle back then. Because of it’s specialized application, it was mostly used by the US Government.

Did you know this portable computer aka laptop is used by NASA? Yes! It was used in NASA space shuttle in the early 1980s as it was a lightweight and powerful device. It has a rugged and stylish look.

6. TRS-80 Model 100

This again resembles the look of a huge version of a calculator. It was popular all over journalists and radio jockeys. It was sold through Radioshack, the portable computer company. The journalists mention that they could type about 11 pages of text and then transmit it for editing using the built-in modem. It is a word processor phone directory and dialer. It even communicates with the office computer, just like today’s communication between watch and laptops.

7. Commodore SX-64

Invented in 1984 with some exciting features and finally a door opening device to the 90s technological brains. It was the first portable computer to feature a full-colored display screen. It was expensive indeed, sold for 995$. The weight of this laptop is 20 pounds. Its RAM is 64 Kilobytes and 1 MHz CPU. It did not sell as expected but is popular among the user groups and software developers as colored full screens got their curiosity. They could quickly pack and unpack the machine for copying software or giving demonstrations.

8. IBM PC Convertible

This is invented in 1986 by IBM. It was the first laptop to be using a three and a half inch floppy disk format. This became the industry standard. Like modern laptops, it featured power management. And the ability to run from batteries. In fact, the advertisement at that time has a detailed explanation of how we use our laptops today. It is actually a typical computer where you can detach the laptop part of it for portable purposes. How fascinating is that?

9. Compaq SLT/ 286

This was invented in 1988 by Compaq. It was a first battery-powered laptop to support an internal hard disk drive and a VGA compatible LCD Screen in it. Probably this was the first time a company used the LCD screen on a laptop monitor. It was 14 pounds with a stylish look of the time.

10. NEC Ultralite

Invented in 1989 by NEC. As the name suggests it is ultra light in weight and it was considered the first notebook style laptop. The weight of this laptop is less than 5 pounds which was the talk of the town. It has 5 MHz CPU and the price is 5000$.

11. Apple PowerBook:

In 1991, Apple launched the PowerBook. They had a failure with their first attempt of laptop. Apple reworked the concept and released the PowerBook line in October 1991. They created a stir in the industry because of the look and feel of the laptops were so stylish. The dark gray cases and positioning of the pointing device were known as their highlights. Macintosh Software was newly introduced by them and that gave a new wave in the industry.

12. Olivetti D33

Invented in 1992 by Olivetti. This is the first laptop featuring a touchpad, a replacement of mouse. The position of the touchpad is near the base of the screen. It was the norm of the day as many applications were text-based and there was no use of a mouse or a pointing device.

13. Olivetti Quaderno

The same year, in 1992, Olivetti released a smaller laptop named the Quaderno. It is capable of audio recording while the computer was off and almost instant boot up. It has got 16 MHz CPU AND 1MB of RAM and 20 MB of Hard disk space. How amazing is it to have a audio recorder in 1992 even when the power if off? This must have created a stir in the industry back then for sure.

14. Compaq Concerto

It was invented in 1993 by Compaq. Now hold your hearts tight and read it because we have a detachable laptop in 1993 itself. It has a detachable keyboard, pen, and touchscreen. Beat that in 1993. Isn’t amazing? Although it was touch, it only worked with a special pen much like today’s tablets. It was definitely ahead of its time

15. Toshiba Portege 2000

Invented in 2002 by Toshiba. It was the thinnest laptop to be developed at only three-quarters of an inch of the thickest part. It also featured the first 1.8 inches hard drive in a laptop.

16. Compaq TC1100

It was invented in 2004 with a very unique design. It was a hybrid laptop which included a touch screen, stylus, and tablet mode. Unfortunately, Windows OS was not a touch-friendly OS hampering its success. 2004 is too early for us to know about tablets and touch screens in India. Like the Concerto this was another laptop which is ahead of its time

17. Eee PC 701

It was invented in October 2007 by Asus. It is named Eee PC 701 which was the first netbook on the market. It featured a 7-inch screen and Intel Celeron M processor. And a 4GB hard disk.

18. Lenovo Yoga 13

Invented in 2012 by Lenovo, of course. It is considered as the first modern hybrid laptops taking advantage of Windows 8 touch interface. The name Yoga is a reference to units design which allows four different configurations and they are the stand mode, tablet mode, laptop mode and tent mode

19. RazerBlade Pro

Invented in 2013 as the first portable gaming laptop.at 0.9 inches thin and weighing 6.5 pounds. This was the most portable 17-inch gaming laptop in its class.

20. Lenovo Yoga Book

Invented in 2016, brought more functionality. By using a digitizer panel as a keyboard, the user was able to draw, write and type on the same panel. The tradeoff was the haptic feel and feedback when in keyboard mode.

21. Lenovo Yoga Book C930

It is a 2018 version of yoga book now uses e link for the keyboard panel. E-Ink allows for a more natural drawing surface and for custom input entry layouts depending on the application being used. And most importantly, it allows reading without wasting any battery or having to carry a second device. It is slim and light.

22. Asus Project PreCog

Asus is currently working with a project called PreCog which consists of a dual monitor laptop similar to the Yoga Book but without the limitations of e-ink. Both could be used as monitors by connecting an external keyboard or both monitors can be used for gaming or for presentations.
In laptop mode, one monitor is used normally like how we use the regular laptops, while the other is used as the keyboard or control panel
